Re-entry from Amman
June 22, 2009
Italy welcomes you back with an hour wait in line for a security check before you enter the airport (after having descended from the airplane). Of course there were 4 carabinieri operating one security check point for 200+ persons in line and of course they fell all over themselves to assist the pretty young things in line, but ignored the older folks who were actually struggling with watches, belts and packages of dates and Jordanian handicrafts and delaying the line’s progress.
Then, the real fun begins in the form of is my luggage to be on the conveyer belt, or not to be? After about 45 minutes of that, you are free to enter the Roman rat race once again.
I came home to Bella Orvieto and a garden consumed by weeds with some HUGE green veggies which I think are rotund zucchini and a small crop of of sweet cherry tomatos. I really wish I liked zucchini bread. Maybe I should plant cocoa beans next year.
I had a leisurely day at the Orvieto community pool, which pales in comparison to the Dead Sea spa, but significantly cooler pool water for lap swimming and no tots in sight.
